from the time i sported a new ‘do’, i have been shaving my head every 2 or 3 days [depending on the growth and the time i had]… i bought a 3-razor shaver and have since been seen lugging it around more often than not…

now, tonight, i had a new revelation… if women can endure having their pubes waxed every 2 weeks or so, probably, i can also endure having my head waxed!!

do you know of a salon who does that?? i have googled “head waxing philippines” but came up with nothing… i know this is not commonly done here, but probably, there are someone out there who had done this… wanna share??

NOTE: the following is not for me… it is for a person i know… he is not even close to me, and yet, i feel what he is going through right now…

he is your eldest, and you were very proud… you’ve watched him grow up, tended his knee scratches, consoled and taught him when he got into fights, you’ve taught him everything you know… you were around when he met his first girl… you were there when he got his heart broken for the very first time, and everytime thereafter… you put his medal on him when he graduated in elementary and high school, and later on, in college, you were very proud of him thinking that this is the beginning of a new life for him…

you egged him on during the times he was looking for his first job, and failing miserably… you even lent him money and your car [without the knowledge of your wife, of course] just to make it easy for him… and you were still proud of him…

and during all of these times, he was always there for you… he was all the way behind you when one of your daughters had a son out of wedlock, and later on got married outside of your religion… he was behind you when another of your daughters went astray… and he was behind you countless number of times throughout the years… and you were still very proud of him…

and yet, now that he needs your strong backing in his latest endeavor, you left him out in the cold… when the question of religion [or the lack of it] comes up, and the problem is that it goes against your own beliefs, you are not willing to give way, not even an inch… your son will soon get married to a woman whose beliefs are different from your own… and since he loves this woman, he is willing to get married in this woman’s church… but now, you are proud of him no longer… you are willing to forsake your son and let the question of religion come between you…

mamamatay ka na lang, yan pa rin ang iniisip mo… tsk tsk tsk…

“Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?”

40 years ago, today, a baby boy was born to parents Nena and Larry, their first, and soon after, a host of other babies followed… and that was the end of the story of their firstborn…

his life was never outstanding… growing up, he never topped his classes, never got his favorite toy, never did what other children of his age did at the time… and this was because his family was poor… at the age of 9 years old, he became the man of the family when his father died due to mysterious circumstances… at the tender age of 12, he was already working fulltime as a tennis ballboy over at a popular rich kid hangout in Makati… at 15, he learned how to do a peon’s job, a baker’s apprentice, delivery boy, and some other small-time jobs just to have a few pesos at the end of the day in his pockets… when he entered college at age 19, it was on his own… he got a scholarship from a government agency, worked in at least 2 jobs at the same time, and later on, also became the editor-in-chief of his school paper which earned him a second scholarship from his school…

during the years that followed, he worked in dead-end jobs… he became an encoder for a foreign company working in Pampanga, a salesman-cum-delivery man of caskets, a computer technician for a short while, and later on, went on to becoming what will be his lifelong passion, teaching…

he first taught computers in small time schools somewhere in the north, then later came back to Manila to teach in high-end institutions, the latest of which was in a prestigious school in Magallanes, Makati… went to HongKong for a short while, but decided to come back because he missed Manila so much… and now, he is an IT manager in one of the international schools based in Taguig…

all very normal, all very common, never distinguished or prominent, never outstanding…

although i don’t drink [much], i would like to make a toast to the first 40 years of my life, and here’s hoping for the 2nd 40… life begins at 40? well, i have arrived to find out… do i hate my life? no… but, do i love it? let me live my 2nd life, then i’ll tell you about it…

happy birthday to me… *hic*

protecting and sustaining the environment is not a job just for one person or government… this is a big job for all of us living in this one earth… i called up Magic 89.9 earlier today and talked about this with the hosts of the show, Mo and Grace, and Mo brought up one important question: how can a poor person even think of preserving the environment if he has nothing to eat?

again, we do not HAVE to go out there and preach about preserving it full time… there are so many little things we can do, that when you add them up, will have a great impact on the environment… here are a few:

use less paper — one disaster plaguing the Philippines today are landslides caused by the incessant deforestation, to make furnitures and paper… in the office, use less printer, and more of email…

for the moneyed class, use environment friendly vehicles — dump those large gas-guzzling vehicles you now use to travel around the metro… it not only burns fossil fuel [gas] at a very high rate, it also adds to the carbon dioxide being emitted into the air…

look around your house and see if there are unused appliances plugged in and unplug them… a microwave oven left plugged overnight uses energy that can heat up to 30 spaghetti dinners… a DVD player left on overnight uses energy for you to watch about 20 DVDs… and at the office, a copier machine left plugged in overnight uses enough energy to produce 10,000 copies

not only should you recycle, but buy products that are recycled… by purchasing these products, you are helping to conserve natural resources, and to protect the environment.

…and a host of other things one can do to help preserve the environment… again, if we do our own little part, that will add up to a great deal…

Ciao, sweetie…
