in retrospect…

there is a new show in the airwaves [or the cables, if you prefer] called 30 Rock starring Tina Fey as Liz Lemon, the head writer of a sketch comedy show who must deal with her arrogant new boss, Jack Donaghy played by Alec Baldwin…

this is a very funny show where Tina plays the lead role to the hilt, and Baldwin is at his “dry-witted, brilliant best”, according to one commenter of the show…

anyway, this post is really not all about the show, but a comment made by Fey in its premier episode… when Baldwin said to Fey that “that’s how you should dress to work” when she showed up to work one day in pink jacket and skirt, Fey shot back in a very sarcastic tone:

yeah! if i was the president of the Philippines!!

this is one comment against the Philippines that i agree with… what a laugh!!

if you managed to watch CSI: Miami last night, you will know what i am talking about…

we all know that Horatio Caine [played by David Caruso] is the epitome of an uber-cool super cop when it comes to busting criminals and solving seemingly unsolvable crimes…

anyway, in last night’s episode, they were looking for a kidnapped person whom they managed to pinpoint to a building that was about to be blown up… with 5 seconds to go before detonation, Horatio went into the doomed building in his sleek black Hummer, managed to save the victim who was tied in silver packaging tape, bring him into his vehicle parked about 4 meters away, and drive out of the building with detonations happening behind and all around him with nary an expression on his face!! COOL!!

it’s like nobody and his brother can break his composure either when shooting a criminal, or his girlfriend getting killed… and no one is like that!! how real is this guy?? oh right, he is just a TV show character… goodness!!

i like the characters of Gil Grissom [played by William Petersen] of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Mac Taylor [Gary Sinise] of CSI: NY better… yeah, they’re both cool, too, but not to the point that makes them seem less like human… unlike the character being played by David Caruso…

again, no one can be THAT cool under extreme stress, people!!

it’s not that i don’t like CSI… the reverse, in fact… the wife and i live on CSI… if we couldn’t manage to watch it during the week nights, we catch up to it starting 9pm Sundays, where all 3 shown within the week are replayed… i just can’t pass up this chance to comment on this episode…

what is it with the Internet that its main purpose for some people is either to get smut or offer sex for a fee?? in today’s Jessica Soho Reports, one episode tackled how, in remote provinces in the Philippines [Cebu, for example], there were Internet cafe’s operating 24 hours which have private rooms… and what were they used for?? so that some Internet users can hold private shows for some of their foreign parukyanos…

this way of earning money is not limited to just teenagers or gays only, though…public school teachers also offer cybersex shows to foreigners for a minimum of $100 per!! one was a 24 year old, and the other one was [wait, you'd better be sitting down for this] a 66-year old!! goodness!! :o

the National Bureau of Investigation cannot do anything against these cybersex “dens”, though, due to the fact that there isn’t any law against this… in effect, all they can do is raid these dens for pornography [which we have laws against], confiscate the machines used to perpetuate, and that’s about it… till next time, amigos!!

when was the last time have you been a good samaritan and helped a complete stranger — whether it be an old lady trying to cross a street, a blind person asking for directions, or helped a hobbled person down a long flight of stairs — only finding out sometime later that you have been conned??

in this episode of the The Real Hustle, The Good Samaritan, it shows how an unsuspecting samaritan can be scammed out of his wristwatch simply because he was asked to help…

though the video was set in Europe, the same can be true here in the Philippines, with the Pinoy’s penchant for helping those who are seemingly helpless… i am not saying, though, that one shouldn’t help… just that one should also be aware of what is happening around him…

there are several other episodes which also can happen here… there is the Pick Pocket, the WiFi Scam, and the Cash Machine [or ATM] Scam…

go take a look at them… scammers may have found these videos a long time ago, and are now preparing the same scams… you just wouldn’t know what to look out for…

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY, everyone!!

don’t do what i wouldn’t do…

Ara, Edu, Cesar, and Goma running for public offices i can understand… they are celebrities — ergo, popular — and who wouldn’t want to be associated with popular people?? they may not know anything about politics in general, and serving in particular, but you can’t fault traditional politicians for wanting to have celebrities in their tickets, can you?? and what better way for celebrities to cement their popularity than by running for public office??

but popular sportsmen?? sure, they know life… they were once like us, anyway… but what has the likes of Robert Jaworski [11th Congress] and son Dudot ever contributed to the country except to switch sides when it suits his, and his career’s, purpose?? the reason he won in 1998?? you bet, he was popular… but when people finally realized their mistake in electing him and his balimbing ways, he didn’t win again in 2004…

here, now, comes Manny Pacquiao running for a political office in his native city of General Santos… he is a hero and immensely popular, and with the voter’s penchant for voting based simply only on name-recall, he doesn’t even have to spend a single centavo for his campaign… he is already assured of a seat… even if he runs for president…

the problem is, being a hero does not assure us of anything besides having a hero for a president, or congressman, or mayor… he does not know the first thing in running a whole city, much less a country… he was not born to the political arena, and it is already too late for him to learn… what will he do in the congressional floor if someone angers him or defames him, which are the norm when one is in politics?? punch or knock the other guy out?? or will he force himself to learn the lengthy house rules?? will he retire once he wins a seat?? or continue with his bouts abroad?? if the latter is the case, can we afford to have an absent congressman for months on end at least 3 to 4 times a year??

this post, and other posts like it, is not targetted against Manny, but targetted against his willingness to be used by trapos of the Arroyo administration… Manny may have the enthusiasm to really help people, but no public office can give him the pure joy of helping without thinking of the next elections, or that his position is being threatened by political bickerings…

someone asked me yesterday why all my political posts were all about Manny and his political ambitions… he asked, “why not blog about celebrities as well??” simple answer to that is because celebrities are already hopeless cases, while i still haven’t lost my faith in Manny… faith that he will do the correct thing, correct for him, his family, and his people… not for those who use people for their own ends…

and i end this post with this call: all pinoy bloggers here and abroad, put a post in your blogs calling for Manny not to run for a public office… once we have the manifesto up, then i will call on you again to sign it…

this just in:

Manny Pacquiao’s mother threatened the Destroyer if he pushes thru in filing his candidacy for any position that he will lose a mother, and her support… it was reported before that Manny is thinking of running for mayor in his native city of General Santos… he was also being wooed by the LAKAS party to run under their banner as congressman of South Cotabato… even in today’s news, there was an item that American trainer Freddie Roach threatened to leave the fighter if ever he enters politics…

according to news reports, Manny’s mom said “mapili sya, magpatuloy sya, wala na sya nanay…” if ever he runs for office in May…

i will side with his mom in this… he has no right to run just because he is popular… though he hasn’t signified any intentions of running for any office yet, but his silence leaves a bad taste in the mouth of his supporters…

i just hope he makes up his mind soon, so that i can prepare to blast him to hell if he does, or praise him to high heavens if he doesn’t…

EDIT 20070131: Mom backed out!! in this morning’s news, Aling Dionisia Pacquiao capitulated to his son when they talked online early today… Manny said he is almost sure he will run for office… “kung yan ang kaligayahan mo, Manny, susuporta na ako sa iyo…”

this is not right… tsk tsk tsk…

the wife and i were watching the show XXX [eXplosibong eXklosibong eXpose] of ABS-CBN Channel 2 last week, and there was one episode where a certain Richard Miranda aka Clarence allegedly victimized a girl named Sandra into having sex with him…

apparently, they met through a chat channel [if you don't know, a chat channel is where you register and text your messages and/or images to a certain shortcode, and your message will appear on TV], became friends, and later on, Clarence texted Sandra that he is willing to give 25-35K [thousand] to her if she will just have sex with him… and so they met up, they ate, and later on, ended up in a motel and had wild sex…

anyway, to make a long story short, Sandra reported this to XXX because, again apparently, Clarence kept on calling her saying that if she will not have sex with him again, with another friend, Clarence will post all her naked pictures which he took the 1st time they met…

Clarence was later on apprehended with the help of XXX and the police… the end… or is it??

in today’s episode of XXX, two other women surfaced basically telling the same thing against Clarence… the only difference was that they met up using Internet chat, instead of meeting in a chat channel… 30-year old Ivy and 17-year old Sunshine both told XXX of their “ordeal” with Clarence…

now, Clarence is being charged with theft [he stole the ladies' cellular phones], rape, and child abuse [because Sunshine was just 17 years old]…

this post does not condone what Clarence allegedly did… but it does not empathize with the alleged victims, either… and this was because they got what they deserved to get… if they are to be believed, then they deserve Clarence and what he did to them!!

if you haven’t met a person before, then he proposes that you and him have sex in exchange for 25-30 thousand pesosesoses, but later on doesn’t give you any money, what do you call yourself?? a victim?? oh c’mon, you don’t really believe that, do you?? because you are a fool if you do… really…

so, what do you say??
