An Inconvenient Truth: A Global Warning

yes, this is the most terrifying film i have ever seen to date, and i have seen almost all of them… i am terrified for my son, for my son’s sons and daughters, and for all future generations that will come after me…

this film, featuring Al Gore, former vice-president under the infamous Bill Clinton, talks about the climate changes that is happening all over the world… changes that happen due to our misuse of the environment and everything that it gives us… and these changes bring us problems, not good tidings…

Hurricane Katrina, Typhoon Frank, Cyclone Nargis, and a host of other natural disasters are happening year after year, and the earth is crying out for help… a little melodramatic, i know, but that is the only description i can find as far as the global disasters happening all over are concerned…

and all of these are happening because of all our technological advances… global warming is due to the presence of 4 greenhouse gasses, namely carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and chloroflourcarbons… all of which are man-made… CO2 is brought about by the burning of fossil fuels… car emissions, coal burning, and forest fires instantly come to mind… methane comes primarily from garbage dumps [remember Smokey Mountain?]… nitrous oxide arose from our use of nitrogen-based fertilizers, and finally, chloroflourcarbons or CFCs come from using airconditioners and other refrigerants too much…

question now is: must we leave all technological advances we have made in the past 3 decades or so just to save the one earth we live in?? simply to preserve the future of our future? my answer to that is no, we should not… but we must also learn sustainable development and teach what we learned to everyone concerned… and by everyone concerned, i meant, every man, woman, and child that you come in contact with in your every waking hour… of everyday, for the rest of your life…

i am not saying that you stop driving a car… stop driving those gas-guzzling-big-American-made cars, and go for the environment friendly ones… or better yet, ride in mass transports and save up on gas… decrease your use of electricity and go back to the basics… and many others each one of us can do to help save the environment…

yes, there will be major changes to our way of life, i agree, but if we want to continue living in this one earth of ours, i suggest we do just that… and immediately… nature will NEVER wait for us to wake up and finally do what must be done… it will go its natural way, whether there is a person in its path [and more often that not, there are people in its path] or not… our storms will continue to rise in intensity, our summer heats will continue to rise no matter what, and our hurricanes will get stronger and stronger if we just sit on our fat asses and do nothing… the time to go forward and let your voice be heard is now… blog about it… talk about it amongst your friends… teach about it to your students… spare an hour a day explaining about it to your employees… but whatever you do, DO IT NOW!! before your way of life comes to an abrupt end…

a Tagalog movie to watch out for…

(c)

with Leo Martinez as Congressman Manhik Manaog at your self-service and Manuel “Jun” Urbano, Jr as Mr Shooli, M.O.N.A.Y ni Mr Shooli is set to be shown soon in Philippine theaters…

M.O.N.A.Y or “Misteyks of the Neysyon Address Yata” is a movie, though political in nature but without pointing to any particular issue, with lots of comedy, but the nature of the movie is serious… according to Martinez, this movie is meant to educate votes who will troop to the polls on May 14…

maraming tangang pulitiko ang nasa puwesto dahil na rin sa mga tangang botante

and that is true enough… if we want politicians who will work towards the people’s agenda, who is working for us and not for themselves or for their political partymates or their friends or their padrinos, we must be astute enough to know our politicians not simply because they are celebrities…

anyway, this is one Pinoy movie that i will definitely watch our for… you see, i don’t watch Pinoy movies for the very simple reason that watching one makes me feel stupid afterwards… which is why i will not be voting for Cesar Montano because his platform will be the movie industry… ewwwww…

story of the 300

(c)

it is not very often very often that i review a movie that i saw, in fact, i can only count one where i did a review, and this was about 2 years ago… but this time, there is this itch crawling everywhere on my skin to do this… the fact that i cannot get this out of my head means that i need to put it into words, lest they burst out of me in small but long spurts, until it leaves me but just a wilted husk…

[finally, some creative writing!! :D ]

the good samaritan

(c)

when was the last time have you been a good samaritan and helped a complete stranger — whether it be an old lady trying to cross a street, a blind person asking for directions, or helped a hobbled person down a long flight of stairs — only finding out sometime later that you have been conned??

in this episode of the The Real Hustle, The Good Samaritan, it shows how an unsuspecting samaritan can be scammed out of his wristwatch simply because he was asked to help…

though the video was set in Europe, the same can be true here in the Philippines, with the Pinoy’s penchant for helping those who are seemingly helpless… i am not saying, though, that one shouldn’t help… just that one should also be aware of what is happening around him…

there are several other episodes which also can happen here… there is the Pick Pocket, the WiFi Scam, and the Cash Machine [or ATM] Scam

go take a look at them… scammers may have found these videos a long time ago, and are now preparing the same scams… you just wouldn’t know what to look out for… ;)

FAP prexy ridicules actors/actresses

(c)

in today’s news, Leo Martinez and another fellow director ridiculed all celebrities wanting to run for public office in the coming May elections, particularly those who would be running for senate and congree positions, indicating that these celebrities do not know anything about the creation of laws…

he was heard saying “dito nga [FAP], di pa natin ma-solve mga problema e… bagsak pa rin ang industriya“… and it is true, right??

and “solbin na muna nating yung problema ng industriya bago tayo magpunta dun sa national” which is how celebrities must think if they really want to help…

when asked if it includes all other celebrities currently or those who were in politics like Erap, Tito Sotto, Bong Revilla, etc, he says, “Yes, them, too”…

i applaud you, Leo, for bringing out into the open what you really think of your fellow celebrities who want to run for office… MABUHAY KA!! sana dumami pa ang tulad mo… (y)

dating guide for cool pinoys

(c)

the love month is now upon us, and for all those whose Christmas is cold, don’t let Valentine’s Day be equally cold, if not worse…

and, to all of you who doesn’t have a date yet, i pity you here is a dating guide so that you can finally experience that first kiss you’ve always been yearning for, but cannot seem to get…

i have this girl i’ve been eyeing… can i text or call her for a date??

by all means, communicate with her one way or another using your cellphone… she’d think you’re cool… or better yet, save up all those credits and simply text her something like “dig kta, dig mo me? date tau!!” or something along those lines… then wait by your phone the whole day, you just might miss her response… and when she does respond, don’t text right away… she might think you’re eager… and that’s uncool…

a friend is setting me up for a blind date… how can i be sure it won’t bomb??

because you are so cool and can’t be bothered to find your own date, you’d rather wait for a friend to set you up… if you go that route, your blind date is already on its way to blowing up in both your, and your date’s, faces… but if you really want to go ahead with the blind date, keep an open mind about it… to be really really sure, agree on what you both will wear, but you wear a totally different thing, then go to the location… scout her first, and if she’s nothing short of beautiful, simply tell her that you tripped over yourself going to the date that you messed up your clothes… but if she’s butt-ugly, then run like there’s no tomorrow…

but then again, an ugly date is better than nothing!!

Manny’s mom threatens pug

(c)

this just in:

Manny Pacquiao’s mother threatened the Destroyer if he pushes thru in filing his candidacy for any position that he will lose a mother, and her support… it was reported before that Manny is thinking of running for mayor in his native city of General Santos… he was also being wooed by the LAKAS party to run under their banner as congressman of South Cotabato… even in today’s news, there was an item that American trainer Freddie Roach threatened to leave the fighter if ever he enters politics…

according to news reports, Manny’s mom said “mapili sya, magpatuloy sya, wala na sya nanay…” if ever he runs for office in May…

i will side with his mom in this… he has no right to run just because he is popular… though he hasn’t signified any intentions of running for any office yet, but his silence leaves a bad taste in the mouth of his supporters…

i just hope he makes up his mind soon, so that i can prepare to blast him to hell if he does, or praise him to high heavens if he doesn’t… :)

————————————

EDIT 20070131: Mom backed out!! in this morning’s news, Aling Dionisia Pacquiao capitulated to his son when they talked online early today… Manny said he is almost sure he will run for office… “kung yan ang kaligayahan mo, Manny, susuporta na ako sa iyo…

this is not right… tsk tsk tsk…

livELY benefit concert

(c)

imgp3148.jpg a benefit concert was held today at the Eastwood, Libis for influential singer-songwriter Ely Buendia, formerly of The Eraserheads, vocalist/guitarist of Pupil… Ely suffered a heart attack while performing in Laguna on January 9, and immediately underwent angioplasty but is now said to be recuperating at home… during the free concert, boxes were passed around by band members themselves to accept donations for Ely…

aside: i was in the company of renowned photographers Daniel Tan and Allan Florendo, foremost shutterbugs in their own right…

anyway, i have to leave early since the wife and i had to be somewhere later in the night… it was a good gig, but i unfortunately cannot finish it… :(

will be back in Libis tomorrow, this time to cover the streetball challenge featuring “athletes” from bands like Sponge Cola, DictaLicense, Kjwan, UpDharma, Radioactive Sago, Greyhoundz, and others who will be playing for the benefit of public schools thru the Rock Ed PE project… oh, and everyone is invited…
