read from Mike Abundo:

The National Telecommunication Commission plans to classify Web sites and other data posted on the Internet as a value added service that needs to registered with the government.

In the preliminary hearing of a draft memorandum circular on value added services, Edgardo Cabarrios, NTC director for common carrier and authorization department, said contents of Web sites such as Yahoo could be classified as a value added service in so far as its delivery is concerned.

“Telecom is delivery of content. When content is delivered it becomes a telecom service,” Cabarrios said.

WHAT?? are they crazy?? with the millions of Filipino web sites, blog sites, galleries, and what not all over the cyberspace, it would take months if not years to process just one site!!

THIS. IS. JUST. SO. CRAZY!! :S

is this their newest way of bilking us for more money?? stupid idiots… tsk tsk tsk… and what will they do if i don’t register mine?? shut me down?? hah! lemme see then do that!!

grrrrrrrrrrr… p0ta!!

vote and don’t vote list

(c)

since i have often lambasted candidates, senatoriables mainly, left and writeright, i have often been asked to post something positive and/or constructive on my pages for a change, to revel on a candidates’ good looks maybe?? or just to espouse his/her ideals… but when i was just about to start writing about this, i often find myself short of material… there is just not enough good things to say about a particular candidate except maybe gwapo sya or antangkad naman nya or wow! sexy!! BECAUSE [and this is with a capital B, E , COS] there no more such politicians today… those that you can talk about fondly and reminisce about all the good things he or she has done for the country… the likes of Jovito Salonga and Salvador Laurel are no more [yes, Shari, that's how old i am and that was why i was so righteuos...]… so why should i??

ok, as i have been asked to name names by so many people [my wife], here’s a list of senatoriables to vote and not to vote for this coming May 14 elections:

Do Not Vote For These People:

– Team Unity candidates - just a bunch of money- and power-grabbing sons-of-blipblip out to bleed the country dry, with all their bickering, both internal and external, and doesn’t know anything but to engage in a round of mud-slinging with their rivals… i hate these assholes with a passion, not because they are administration candidates [well, that, too] but because this is a bunch of fools and misfits not suited to govern a country… and one of these people might just be our president soon??? oh my goodness!!

– Genuine Opposition candidates - they’re like a gang of kids out to ambush the school bully and finally stop him from trampling ALL of them, and hoping to get away with it… so what if the administration say such things about you?? can’t you rise out from the grave you so wantonly dug yourself in and come out with guns a-blazing ready to tackle all the issues of the country?? but no, you persisted in answering each and every accusation the administration and its cohorts throw your way… and what do you get out of it?? nothing?? and yet, the people continue to suffer… you are suppose to be the hope, and i would’ve called for a 12-0 in your favor, but you continue adding such impersonalities like Goma… why?? do you really believe he can do anything for this country?? or are you simply riding on his popularity with the people?? mga shet kayo!!

The Following You Vote for:

uhhhmmm…

errr….

ok, i seem to have lost my list of people to vote for… will get back to you on that, ok??

Ciao, sweetie… 8)

The State of Philippine Internet — PLDT and Globe services from the perspective of a regular guy

(c)

[am not a researcher nor a true writer, so you must forgive me the title and the following texts... i just want to rant and look like i know what i was saying... ;) ]

the Internet has become a regular part of our daily lives and rue the day we find that we cannot go online to check our email, read online news, blogsurf, and such mundane, simple things that we’ve taken for granted thinking that they will always be on hand when and where we need them… true enough, there are now free WiFi connections sprouting around the metro — i even heard from a lady friend that Davao has a free city-wide WiFi connection — and you can’t turn your head without seeing an Internet cafe… it has become so commonplace that we can expect to be online anywhere, anytime even without a computer… there are now cellphones and phone services [3G, for example] offering online services for a measly P10 per 30 minutes!!

we’ve really come a long way during the BBS period of 1992-1994 when we dial [yes, dial!] to an online server one at a time, download conversations and emails from other people, read them offline, reply offline, dial again, and upload these replies and possibly download new ones… and later on, those text-only web pages and IRC really made things so simple… we definitely do not need a very high-speed connection then… a 14.4K modem and a phone line are all that’re needed to get to the world wide web… then…

and today?? stop a regular guy from the street and ask him how his Internet connection is at home… and normally than not, he will tell you that, although he is connected to a big-name ISP, his connection is so crappy or so slow or both, that he is considering of going to another ISP he heard has good services… at least, that’s what i’ll tell those interviewers, not that i’ve been stopped before and asked a question like this… but i will… tell them, i mean…

a bad experience over at Gerry’s Grill

(c)

[reprinted from Kubiertos]

our HR manager last week decided to take us other managers out for lunch today… we decided to eat at Gerry’s Grill in Libis… and so, at about 11:30 today, all 4 of us bundled ourselves in a car and headed out for Libis… little did we know that this will be the biggest error we will do today…

anyway, after getting there, we found a nice parking slot, a nice location inside where it was cool, we ordered Pork and Tuna Sisig, Crispy Pata, Laing, rice, and drinks all around… the drinks came first, as usual, and we settled down and waited for the rest of the food to come… a little later, a group of 5 women came in, ordered, and similarly waited for their food… and so, we talked about everything and anything, until the conversation turned to food and restaurants… about 20 minutes into the conversation, i suddenly realized that the women already had their table set and were starting to eat… i looked over and saw that they ordered the same things we did, sisig and crispy pata, and that’s when i remarked “naku, if i ever find out that they forgot about my order, i’ll just up and leave without paying for anything…” and that’s when the HR manager decided to confront the waiters of the restaurant…

they told us that, because their printer allegedly was broken, they got the orders mixed up, and OUR orders are now lost… uh, again?? what do you mean lost?? you mean, we need to order and go through the whole process again?? at that, we got out of our seats and left the establishement without paying for our drinks [at my recommendation, the drinks costing about P200]…

it is very easy to blame technology, but in the end, it is still the users of these systems who need to be responsible for their output… they could have just used pen and paper [which they did] and bring the list to the kitchen without bothering to use any kind of printer… if they simply told us that “they’re very sorry it has to happen to us” plus, probably, a free something to go along with it to show that they were really contrite, we could’ve waited… but as it was, all we got were bad looks from the waiters when we got up to leave…

and since we were still totally famished by then, we decided to just go to Pier1 in J. Vargas in Ortigas, where we ordered the same food we wanted over at Gerry’s at less time [10 minutes], and a much colder environment [i can smoke inside, which is a very big plus for them]… at the end, we paid about P1, 400 inclusive of service charge and other taxes, which is P1,400 less from what Gerry’s Grill was supposed to report at the end of the day… it was totally their loss, not ours…

and because we were all famished by then, i wasn’t able to take pictures of the sisigs by the time they were brought to our table… all i was able to take a picture of were the extra garlic rice, laing, and some of the crispy pata…

picture-3.jpg picture-2.jpg picture.jpg

i wouldn’t be caught dead in that branch of Gerry’s after this experience…

Ciao, sweetie… 8)

a week after…

(c)

it has been a week now since i started working for a new company… i am still under training [whatever that means, since i am doing nothing but sit on my butt all day and surf the Internet] so i haven’t had much interaction with any of the 80+ people working under me… of course, there were a few i got to talk to, some of them bloggers i knew since January of this year, but the conversation we had were none too close to my actual job… we talked about SEO stuff and how to earn [more!!] money from blogs [one person here showed me 2 checks worth 200K!!], but that’s about it…

going back to the actual work that i’ve done, still 0, nada, zilch, none, kaput, wala, up to now… of course, i was given like a couple of projects, but i don’t believe for a minute that this is the actual work i will be doing… i am supposed to be managing people, not projects…

anyway, my boss the CEO wanted me to immerse myself first with the environment and the culture of the company… all fine and dandy prolly for the 1st week or two… but he said that i’d be doing actual work only after May 11 [3 weeks from now!!] yet, and just enjoy this respite i was given… :(

i have nothing against having a little respite from work and getting paid for it, but goodness!! a month of doing nothing can addle the brain!!

oh well…

Ciao, sweetie… :(

DONT’s to remember for the May elections

(c)

i don’t want to be in the business of telling people who exactly not to vote for… that is not my job, or i might yet to be sued for libel… instead, i’ll be telling people what to look out for and to NOT vote for politicians doing the following:

1. do not vote for those who do not respect the environment even this early… if you see their posters posted just about anywhere, nailed in trees, or those who persist in playing their obnoxiously loud campaign jingles all day long, scratch them from your list of possibles… DON’T!!

2. if you are given money on election day and asked to vote for a particular candidate, get the money but don’t vote for that candidate!! if he can buy votes this early and manage to get away with it, what do you think will happen when he is holding the position?? DON’T!!

3. if your candidate has previously won, but did not follow through with his promises, do not vote for him/her again… the same vicious circle will happen all over again if that candidate wins… DON’T!!

4. if all your candidate has to say are bad things against his/her opponent, don’t vote for him/her!! if they don’t know how to address issues and concerns of their constituents, how do you think they will do when they finally win and sit?? DON’T!!

5. if your candidate is an actor/actress, DON’T!!

6. if your candidate is a celebrity, DON’T!!

7. if your candidate resorts to gimmicks, instead of addressing issues and Pinoy concerns, DON’T!!

8. if your candidate’s name has previously been linked to gambling, or other nasty rumors, DON’T!! where there’s smoke, there’ll sure be fire…

9. those who have had, or still having, court cases regarding corruption, rape, gambling, carnapping, kidnapping, murder, or just about any heinous crime, DON’T!!

10. and, if you are not so sure of your candidate’s background, and only because he is a celebrity, DON’T!!

don’t waste your right to suffrage, don’t give away your vote!!

Ciao, sweetie… 8)

iBlog3: quotable quotes heard

(c)

for all my very loyal readers [yes, all 1 of you... my wife...] so sorry if this was a day late [2 days now, actually]… i had to prepare for my first day at work today yesterday that i wasn’t able to do this post…

anyway, all throughout the summit, there were numerous quotable ‘quotes’ heard from speakers or from the audience themselves…

do you write the way you speak or the way you think??

this was from jester-in-exile… there was a speaker for whom this quote would be most apt… incoherent though he may be in real-life, but his posts are so straight to the point that, if you know this person, you’d wonder if maybe he has a ghostwriter…

blog to express, not to impress…

this was one quote that hit the nail right on the head for some people… i used to write this way because i want people flocking to my site… i used to want people to say that i write so well, and that my posts are so apt, that i forgot the essence of why i wanted to maintain a blog in the first place… but now, i don’t care anymore… i write simply to express what i want when i want… and…

boring naman nitong speaker na ito!!

[this speaker is so boring!!] heard from one person in the audience… true enough, as far as i am concerned… he was reading HIS presentation to his audience, that it all but lulled us to sleep… it would’ve been better if he just sent his presentation to us, and we could read it in our free time… goodness!! i wonder how i was perceived by my audience!!

anyway, here’s a ‘class’ picture all in uniform after the last speaker of the 2nd day…

aside: i just arrived home from work… not much done today, met and talked to several people, observed around, ate with Coy in Mexicalli [too bad i didn't bring my camera along], found several bloggers working for the same company, and went home at about 3:30… so much for my first day…
